Manuel Pelmuş is a choreographer and artist. His recent works are interventions into the history of art, and especially into the history of museum representation. His ongoing actions enact and actualize well known artworks, taking the privilege of representation back from consecrated institutions, primarily museums and monuments. His project for the OFF-Biennale is a series of enactments and live-transformations of public sculptures and monuments in Budapest.
Together with the teenage participants they reinterpret and produce anew seemingly consensual ideas concerning social norms, values, and historically important moments while re-collectivising concepts of the commons. The public space becomes a space for transformation and playfulness that rethinks notions of celebration and the (re)writing of history, while striving to become a site for production, rather than mere (ideological) representation.
